Get started with these weight loss tips today!

1. Make a Plan

What are you hoping to accomplish with your weight loss journey this year? For many people, it’s more than simply to “lose weight.” Many of us want to look and feel our best selves.

Know Your Goals

Establishing SMART goals can help put you on the right track to achieve those goals. SMART goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timebound. For example, maybe you want to fit into a size 5 dress for a wedding by November.

Perhaps you want to improve your cholesterol levels before your next doctor’s appointment. Make sure your goal is attainable. You need to give yourself time.

Otherwise, you could set an unachievable goal, which only puts stress on yourself.

Once you determine your SMART goals, break them down into smaller, short-term goals as well. For example, maybe you want to lose 1 to 2 pounds each week.

Now that you have your goals in mind, have a way to track them! You can use a smartphone app my GoogleFit or MyFitnessPal to track your progress.

Logging your food and weight loss will help you see how close you are to achieving your goals.

Start Small

A dozen big changes all at once can feel daunting. You could end up quitting before you even start. Instead, make a few small goals each week.

For example, do you want to establish a full eating plan for the year? Make a list of foods you can remove and add to your diet. Instead of removing everything at once, swap a few foods out each week.

You can also remove certain foods slowly.

If you’re a daily soda drinker, try to remove one or two sodas each week. In a few weeks, you’ll cut soda altogether!

Consider a Program

You don’t have to go through this alone. If you prefer more structure with your weight loss plan, consider joining a program. For example, you can join Weight Watchers or a MyFitnessPal plan.

What about your eating plan? Do you want to switch to paleo, keto, or cut back on certain foods?

The choice is up to you! Make sure to keep your short-term and long-term goals in mind.

2. Learn From Your Body

As you start developing your new healthy living plan, pay attention. What’s working? What isn’t?

Here are a few ways you can learn from your body and make adjustments as you go.

Make It Fun

Your weight loss motivation might drop if you’re not enjoying yourself. Instead, make healthy living fun and enjoy the process.

For example, you can find new dishes you love. Create a recipe book and rate the new recipes you try. You can invite friends over to cook with you, too!

Consider Metabolism-Boosters

Make sure the foods you eat are working to help you achieve your weight loss goals.

For example, you can burn more calories by eating thermic foods that naturally give your metabolism a boost. These foods include:

  • Fatty fish
  • Ginger
  • Turmeric
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Peppers
  • MCT oil
  • Olive oil
  • Coffee
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Green tea

Green and oolong tea could boost your metabolism by 4 to 10%.

Try a few of these foods each week to see what works best for your eating plan!

Shop on a Full Stomach

The next time you shop, make sure it’s on a full stomach. Shopping on a full stomach can help you avoid making impulse buys.

Otherwise, that box of chocolates might look more enticing than usual.

Take Your Vitamins

You can supplement your diet with the right combination of vitamins as well. Consult a doctor to determine which vitamins your body needs.

A few of these vitamins include B vitamins, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and magnesium. You can find many of these vitamins in the foods you eat, too.

You might want to consider SARMs as a weight loss solution. You can read more about SARMs and fat burning here.

Find Exercise You Enjoy

Exercising doesn’t have to feel like a chore. Find exercises you love, such as kickboxing, swimming, or even going for a jog.

Bring your friends in, too! They’ll help keep you motivated and working up a sweat.

Don’t Stare at the Scale

Your scale might not show you the progress you’re looking for, especially if you’re gaining muscle.

Take a “Before” photo when you start on your weight loss plan. In addition to regular progress photos, you can also measure your hips and waist.

3. Celebrate and Adjust

Remember, it’s important to track your progress to ensure you’re accomplishing your goals. Here are a few thoughts to consider as you get closer to the finish line.

Reward Yourself As You Go

Your weight loss motivation might falter over time. That’s normal. A great way to maintain your motivation is to reward yourself as you go.

Did you recently accomplish one of your short-term goals? Awesome! Buy yourself a new kitchen tool or treat yourself to the movies.

Look for non-food-related rewards to keep yourself motivated.

Reconsider Your Frustrations

It’s okay to feel frustrated, especially if it feels like it’s taking longer than usual to accomplish your goals. Instead of quitting, turn toward your support system.

Talk it out and ask for their advice. They could surprise you with their own weight loss success stories.

Consult a Specialist

Remember, you’re not alone. If you’re struggling to lose weight, consider talking to a physician, nutritionist, or trainer. Their expertise can help you accomplish your short- and long-term goals!
